Magical Matariki.

What is Matariki?
Matariki is the seven stars of Matariki. It is the name of the Maori new year. When you look up in the sky the stars disappear in late April. The stars come back in winter in late May or early June. A name for the stars are the 7 sisters. Matariki is the eldest star and guides her sisters to their place in the sky. We celebrate Matariki in lots of different ways. The Maori people catch kai moana. Ww forgive and forget people who have made us sad. We fly and make kites. They tell stories from the past. They plant winter crops.

  1. What a helpful explanation of Matariki Jayla. Thank you. I especially liked reading about how people forgive and forget.
